Our experience in regulating gambling provides inspiration for Montenegro

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Peter Kažimír paid a working visit to Montenegro. There, the Minister met Finance Minister Darko Radunović and they discussed cooperation concerning public finance reform. Both ministers also signed an agreement under which the Slovak Ministry of Finance is to provide one million euros to Montenegro’s budget.

The money, earmarked by the Slovak Ministry of Finance from the development aid budget, has been allocated to improving the management of public finances in the field of the national regulation of gambling in Montenegro.

“We have long been supporting Montenegro in its reform efforts. Our Parliament has only recently adopted an entirely new law regulating and tightening the conditions for providing gambling services in Slovakia. We are ready to share our experience in setting up the legislative framework for gambling with our colleagues from Montenegro,” Peter Kažimír said following the discussion.

The heads of both ministries also discussed Montenegro’s current challenges in the pursuit of public finance reform strategy. Slovakia stressed the mutual cooperation of the ministries at an expert level. Also, Slovakia appreciated Montenegro’s interest in addressing the issue of regulating gambling with the aim of mobilising revenues to the national budget.

The Slovak Ministry of Finance has been cooperating with the Ministry of Finance of Montenegro for eight years now. At present, experts from the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic are involved in the improvement of the public sector accounting and reporting system and in the support of the financing of self-governments. In the past, the Ministry participated in building the capacity of the Montenegrin Ministry for macroeconomic and fiscal forecasting, economic analyses and development of the ESA methodology.
